Ambrosia Apple Crisp Recipe

Ingredients:

For the filling:

  • 6 Ambrosia apples (peeled, cored, and sliced)
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional)

For the topping:

  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup packed brown sugar
  • ½ cup unsalted butter (cold, cut into small cubes)
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven: to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Prepare the apple filling: In a large bowl, toss the sliced Ambrosia apples with lemon juice to prevent browning. Add granulated sugar, flour, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Mix until the apples are evenly coated.
  3. Assemble the filling: Spread the apple mixture evenly in the greased baking dish.
  4. Prepare the topping: In a separate bowl, mix the oats, flour, brown sugar, salt, and cinnamon. Add the cold butter cubes, using a pastry cutter or your fingers to work the butter into the mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  5. Add the topping: Sprinkle the oat mixture evenly over the apples.
  6. Bake: Place the dish in the oven and bake for 40-45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender and bubbling.
  7. Cool and serve: Let the apple crisp cool slightly before serving. It’s delicious on its own or with a scoop of vanilla ice cream!

Enjoy your warm, sweet apple crisp!
