Kessler’s has been actively involved in the growth and promotion of Aberdeen, SD, and our surrounding community for over 70 years. Kessler’s continues to give generously to local charities and local causes as we believe that it is vitally important to reinvest by contributing to organizations and issues that are important to these communities.
NOTE: This event has been on hold for the past two years, but we are looking at bringing back.
Beer, Boots & Bourbon is a fundraising event that got its start in 2013 as Wine-ing Down. The money rose for these first two years of the event have gone to support SPURS, Aberdeen’s therapeutic riding center. In 2014, $12,000 was raised with this successful event that offers tastings of new beers, bourbons & wines. Guests of the event are also able to sample meats from Kessler’s & Frohling’s. We are excited to continue to grow this annual event in the future with plans to reach out to other deserving local organizations that have a child-centric focus.
NOTE: This event had to be tabled in 2016, but there are plans to bring back in 2017.
Kessler’s is proud that Grape Times has become a premiere fundraising event in the Aberdeen community. In 2014, the 13th annual event took place and raised $25,000 for the NSU Foundation. This event has continued to grow in its success having raised $250,000 since its inception. Each year a different organization is selected to receive the money raised from the event. Being able to support organizations that have a positive impact on the Aberdeen community is a key element of our company’s vision, “…positively contributing to the communities we serve.” “We strive to enhance the event each year in order to keep it excitingly fresh and fun!
n 2013, Kessler’s decided to hold a food drive to support our community. Because of the tremendous support and success of that event, we decided to hold it again this year. Those two years raised 65,000 pounds of non-perishable food and goods for Aberdeen’s Salvation Army. This event will be another staple in Kessler’s Commitment to support our community.
To assist area schools financially, Kessler’s started the Dollars for Scholars program. Schools collect Kessler store receipts and turn them in for a 1% rebate on the receipt totals. Since establishing the program, Kessler’s has given nearly $1,000,000 to our area elementary, middle and secondary schools. This has been a successful program we plan to continue indefinitely.
Kessler’s is proud of these four events and programs it has built over the years. But, supporting the community doesn’t end there; Kessler’s is a significant benefactor to the following organizations…giving tens of thousands of dollars annually.
- YMCA to build itsYouth Development Center
- Northern State University Foundation
- Roncalli Aberdeen Catholic School System
- Boys & Girls Club
- Brown County Fair
And last, but certainly not least, Kessler’s openly and generously gives immeasurable support directly to our customers and smaller groups in the community. This includes holding fun community events, such as Oktoberfest (left) as well as providing food & drink, general supplies, promotional space, and money for their own fundraising efforts. One such example was a fundraiser held by the volunteers of Habitat for Humanity in May (right).
In the coming year, Kessler’s is planning to develop a focused Community Giving Program that will outline the types of organizations that it will focus it’s giving on in the future. Outlining that program clearly will allow the community to better understand our objectives when we provide those gifts of money and time.
